How you getting on, Troops?

Every so often, a client’s story perfectly sums up what Mind Core Fitness is all about -consistency, mindset, and genuine change. This one’s about Scott Grant, a 53-year-old man who decided to take control of his health and dropped a life-changing 25 kilograms along the way.

When Scott first came to me late last year, he wasn’t in a good place. He was tired of his old habits and told me straight - he’d had enough and needed someone to keep him accountable. That honesty was the first step towards everything that followed.

The Start of the Journey

Scott in January 2024 not long started his fitness journey

Scott works offshore - three weeks at home, two weeks away on a tough job that demands long hours and plenty of energy. It’s the kind of lifestyle that makes fitness a challenge.

We knew early on that consistency would be our biggest obstacle. So we stripped things right back to basics: train when he could, track his progress, and take things one session at a time.

Scott’s motto quickly became “baby steps.” It wasn’t about perfection - it was about forward motion.

Balancing Offshore Life and Training

Life offshore doesn’t leave much room for gym routines or perfect meal plans. That’s why we focused on control, not restriction.

Every time Scott came home, we trained twice a week. We set simple goals: show up, push a little harder each time, and get back on the scales at the end of each month.

Bit by bit, the momentum built. Each session became another brick in the foundation - small, deliberate steps toward a much bigger goal.

A Turning Point in the 25kg Weight Loss Journey

Fast forward to now, and the results speak for themselves. Scott has officially lost 25 kilograms, and he’s still going strong.

When his rota changed earlier this year and he got more time at home, he didn’t waste the opportunity - he doubled down. These days, he trains three times a week without fail, pushes past his limits every session, and stays accountable between weigh-ins.

What stands out most about Scott isn’t the number on the scales - it’s his attitude. He doesn’t overthink or complain. I tell him the plan, he nods, and he gets on with it. That mindset is what transforms people.

In His Own Words

Scott summed it up perfectly in his own testimonial:

“Hi. My name is Scott. I started with Ross last November on a weight loss and getting a bit fitter schedule. So far I have lost 25 kilos and still going. I find that Ross is a good motivator and pushing me onwards to better and more physical workouts even at my tender age of 53. I can only praise on the way Ross trains me and the monthly weigh-ins which for me is a very strong motivator to get to my target. It might be small steps, but every month it’s heading in the right direction.”

That’s the message people need to hear - it’s not about huge overnight change, it’s about steady progress and showing up no matter what.

Eyes on the Bigger Picture

Scott started at 157kg with a clear goal: reach 120kg.

He’s now well on his way, and the difference goes far beyond the physical.

His energy is higher, his mindset sharper, and his confidence back. The best part? He’s not finished yet. This is just one chapter in a much bigger story - a story about taking responsibility, building habits, and proving it’s never too late to change.

Lessons from Scott’s 25kg Weight Loss Journey

  1. Accountability beats motivation. Having someone to check in with keeps you moving, even when you don’t feel like it.

  2. Small steps matter. You don’t need to do everything at once - just do something every day.

  3. Age is no barrier. Scott’s 53 and proving that progress has no deadline.

  4. Structure wins. A plan you can actually follow will always beat chasing perfection.

Final Thoughts

If you’re sitting where Scott once was - tired, frustrated, and not sure where to start - take this as your sign.

You don’t need the perfect plan, just the right mindset. Start small, stay accountable, and let those small wins add up over time.

Like Scott says: “Baby steps.”
